The Beginners Guide to Meditation

Allow guided meditation to do the work for you.

Meditation is a popular means of self-care. It is a practice I recommend you try. There are a few best practices to keep in mind when starting your meditation journey.

(1) Meditation, just like any other skill, takes practice.

Meditation can be uncomfortable and difficult in the beginning. Take it slow! Set realistic goals for yourself!

(2) Apps can help guide your meditation.

There are many apps that are easily available to you. Many of them are free with the option to pay for some features. Take a look at a few. Go with the one that is most user-friendly for you!

(3) Find a meditation that works for you.

Guided meditation is designed to be rhythmic in order to slow your breathing and thoughts into a relaxed state. Meditation is supposed to be relaxing. Some music and accents may not work for you, while others will. Don’t be afraid to try a few until you find a meditation you like!

(4) Start slow and progress when you are ready.

Once you can easily slide into a meditative state with guided meditation, try moving on to a more complex meditation structure, like the singing bowl or silence. Allow your time to build! Start with one minute and let it grow from there!

If meditation is not relaxing for you, don’t worry! There are many other ways to engage in self-care. Be proud of yourself for trying!
